    Vitex glabrata is native to Australasia and tropical Asia where it grows in monsoon forests. It is also known as Black Plumb. It used in folk medicine, as a wood and the fruit is edible. The plant is an herbaceous perennial shrub which is widely introduced in Florida.
    Smooth Chastetree has finely fissured stems and bark. The leaves are light green, shiny with a depressed midrib. They have a thick, ridged petiole. Flowers are attractive, with a tubular calyx and cup-shaped petals growing off slender stalks and arranged loosely at branching ends. Petals arch backward and have 5 lobes with 2 fused at the apex. Blooms are creamy white with purple markings. The fruit is an oval to elliptical stone fruit with a large seed.
