Scientific name: Tetramolopium consanguineum
Common names: Forest Tetramolopium
ADD

Forest Tetramolopium is a plant endemic to the Hawaiian Islands. It is in the family Asteraceae. The plant is on the Federal List of Endangered species. Only a few populations remain. It is a sub-shrub, with many branches, perennial and produces pronounced inflorescences on the terminal stems.
The plant has erect slightly woody to herbaceous stems. Leaves are strappy, slender and tapering, up to an inch long. Lower leaves die to make way for new upper foliage. Branches are loose and wide. The stems terminate in a panicle of clustered flowers. These are faded pink, tiny, composed of both ray and disc florets. The ray petals are whitish pink and the disc florets are maroon. The corolla is the color of dried blood leading to another of the plant’s names, Blood Tetramolopium.
