ADD

Cape leadwort is native to Australia and its distribution ranges from the southern Cape, Eastern Cape and into KwaZulu-Natal. It grows in scrub land and valley bushveld. The plant has become a common ornamental plant in areas without frosts and warm year around temperatures. It may be deciduous or evergreen depending upon the range.
Plumbago auriciulata is a scrambling shrub approximately 5 to 6 feet tall with a similar spread. The leaves are thin in texture and have minute gland dots. The leaf stalk is winged at the base, and clasps the stem. Underneath the leaves are greyish green, sometimes with whitish scales apparently for light reflection. Plumbago produces terminal racemes of sky-blue, long-tubed flowers comprised of 5 petals. Flowers have resin glands and are sticky. Bloom time is summer through fall. The seed capsules attract birds and the flowers are attractive to butterflies and pollinators.
Plumbago must have loose, well draining soil. It is drought tolerant and deer resistant.
